Wallet connections, signatures, and approvals explained
Connecting shares your selected public account with a site. Signing authorizes a particular message or action. A token approval gives a specific contract a spending allowance, while a transaction changes onchain state. Read each request separately, even when it appears inside one product flow.
Connection is the starting point
A connection lets LaunchLot display the selected wallet account and request actions. It does not mean you have bought a token or published a launch. You can read the product and leave without confirming a transaction.
Switching accounts or networks can change what the site can display or do. Before reviewing an action, check the currently connected account rather than assuming it is the one used earlier.
A signature can matter even without gas
A message signature can be used for authentication or a specific authorization. Some token-spending systems also use signed permits. A request that does not show a network fee is therefore not automatically harmless.
On LaunchLot, an artwork-related signature and a token-creation transaction serve different purposes. Review the site, message, account, and requested scope. If the wallet cannot explain what you are authorizing, stop and investigate.
Read the spender and allowance
An allowance authorizes a specified spender contract to transfer up to a certain amount of a specified token. Check all three: token, spender, and amount. Do not interpret the word approve as a general confirmation that a project is safe.
Disconnecting a site does not necessarily remove existing onchain allowances. Review and revoke unused permissions using a tool supported on the relevant network. Revocation itself may require gas and does not reverse transactions that already happened.
Confirmation is not the end of the check
- Confirm only the intended request in the wallet.
- If a transaction hash appears, inspect its status before submitting another attempt.
- Distinguish pending, successful, reverted, and replaced transactions.
- Verify the resulting token, balance, or market state after a successful receipt.
